SkinnyFats

Joe and I went to this place that he had first gone to a while back to check it out as a potential catering option. To be honest, if he hadn’t known about the place, I don’t know if I ever would have goner there/found it. SkinnyFats is located on Dean Martin Drive south of the Strip, in an innocuous industrial park. Though the exterior decor is pretty much non-existent, the interior is surprisingly bright and feels spacious despite having a pretty low seating capacity. You walk in and take a look at the menu, which is split between Healthy and Happy (and, according to Joe, is still evolving). They have a variety of items on the menu, but seem to specialize in breakfast and have a wide sampling of main entrees, ranging from burgers and sandwiches to sushi-like salad creations. It also looked like they were placing a heavy emphasis on their juices and shakes.

I went with the Smoke in A Bowl: Agave BBQ chicken stir fried with peppers, onions, and pineapple. Served with Black beans, pico de gallo and brown rice drizzled with cilantro lime yogurt.

The presentation is a little mussed because I remembered to take a picture after I had already started to eat. Frankly, the food was great. I was a little skeptical of the mix of Agave BBQ, peppers, onions, and pineapple along with hints of cilantro lime, but it all came together. The portions were large enough that I was able to take home half and have leftovers ready for another meal, which is always a plus in my book. All in all, my meal was about $12.50 if I remember correctly, for my entree. No drink and no appetizer or desert.

Rating- 4/5 Food and ambiance was good. Service was a little lacking.
Price range – Medium range. $10-$15 for an entree. Not cheap but not expensive. Portions were large enough to warrant leftovers.
Location – South
Recommendation – Worth going to. I’d probably go more often if it wasn’t so far away from Downtown.
